49+ Eastern Cottonwood Cottonwood Tree Leaf PNG. Commonly reaching 75 or more feet and with the potential to break into the hundreds, with a spread normally ¾ or so of the width, it isn't exceptionally large except in trunk girth. The eastern cottonwood, populus deltoides, is a bull in a china shop of a tree.
One branch which sprouted about 1.5 feet from the ground had grown at least 6ft in just a couple of months. It is not uncommon for young trees to grow in excess of 6 feet in height each year. Cottonwood trees are as much a staple of life in denver as the broncos, the platte, and shoveling out of a spring snowstorm.

Cottonwood is a large tree with long, straight trunk and massive branches forming a rounded top. Female trees have yellow flowers. Each seed produces a bit of fluff to aid in wind dispersal. Eastern cottonwood catkins and leaf buds the male catkins black cottonwood.
